AWS DeepLens Health Challenge

Hopecam's founder, Len Forkas, talks about how you can use AWS DeepLens to boost mental or physical health and support children overcome challenges with cancer.

What is the AWS DeepLens Health Challenge?

*For the Health Challenge, you can use your DeepLens to develop a project about boosting your mental or physical health. Think of something in your life you want to improve, and figure out how DeepLens and AI might help get you there. We’re hoping to see projects that range from helping patients with chronic diseases through to yoga pose recognitions and exercise counting.

18th Annual Hopecam 5K

18th Annual Hopecam 5K

On Sunday May 6th, we held our 18th Annual Hopecam 5k.  The rain stayed away and it was a beautiful morning.  Thank you to everyone that came out to honor our Hopecam child Fletcher.  Over 450 people attended and we raised $53,500 to help connect more children with cancer!

RAAM 2018 Benefiting Hopecam

Race Across America (RAAM) starts on June 12th, 2018.  This year, Frank Fumich will be competing in RAAM for Hopecam!  RAAM is a 3,089 mile solo cross country bike race from Oceanside CA to Annapolis MD.

Frank's goal is to raise money for Hopecam so we can connect more children to their classroom, friends, and support system while they are in cancer treatment.

    On Thursday October 19th, Hopecam held a Celebration event to thank everyone who helped us reach and hit our goal of $1 MILLION!  On June 25th, Len Forkas completed the Race Across America (RAAM) a 3089 mile solo cross country bike race from Oceanside CA to Annapolis MD.  

    Len dedicated each day of the race and 56 time stations along the route to children served by Hopecam.   He also spoke with a Hopecam child each day of the race.  This is his second time completing the race, Len completed RAAM in 11 days, 21 hours and 35 minutes and won the competition’s Lon Haldeman Award as the race’s top fundraiser.

    Race For Hope Documentary

    The following documentary is the “Race for Hope” bike race, a 3,089 mile journey completed in 11 days 21 hours for Hopecam. 

    Hopecam, an organization dedicated to helping children battling cancer overcome social isolation during their treatment, celebrates reaching its $1 million fundraising goal to connect another 1,000 children to their friends at school. Since its founding in 2003, the organization has connected 1,350 children in 46 states.

    The successful campaign was led by founder Len Forkas’ participation in the Race Across America (RAAM), a grueling, 12-day, 3,089 mile bike race from San Diego, California to Annapolis, Maryland. Forkas dedicated each day of the race and 56 time stations along the route to children served by Hopecam. His second time completing the race, Forkas finished in 11 days, 21 hours and 35 minutes and won the competition’s Lon Haldeman Award as the race’s top fundraiser.
