Hopecam South Pole Honored Children
Len Forkas will dedicate his stops during his South Pole Expedition, to Hopecam children.
1: LIZZIE - GRADE 2, FORT WORTH, tx
Lizzie had a rough 2023 with 4 emergency brain surgeries and radiation but was a champ and is thriving; living life to its fullest.
She loves all things stem/arts/crafts and looks forward to following Len’s footsteps one day in world traveling when she gets well enough.
2: MASON - 9 YEARS OLD, GRANDVIEW, TN
Mason was diagnosed with Leukemia when he was 6 years old. He finished treatment four months ago after 2.5 years of treatment. He is starting to feel better off treatment and is enjoying being off his meds. He just turned 9 years old on December 30. Mason used his Hopecam Device for Hospital Homebound Schooling, virtual martial arts, and reading books. He put it to good use!!
3: PHOEBE - GRADE 4, LAUREL, MD
Phoebe is very artistic. Her favorite things to do are sculpt things out of model magic (sort of like playdoh, but dries like clay and you can paint it) and paint on canvases. When Phoebe is getting her chemo treatments, she almost always does some sort of craft to pass the time. Phoebe likes to give her creations away to the hospital staff. Phoebe loves to cook and enjoys watching cooking shows. She often helps her mom in the kitchen and likes creating her own recipes. She would like to participate in a cooking competition someday. Phoebe will hopefully begin maintenance around the end of January and be able to transition back to school in person. She is really looking forward to being back at school with her friends!
4: MILES - GRADE 3, KING GEORGE, VA
Miles "rang the bell" Oct 26th! It's been a long year, but we made it through brain surgery, radiation and 6 rounds of chemo. He really likes rubik's cubes, he can solve a 3x3 and 2x2. He's been able to play mini golf a few times now that his treatments are done. Turns out he's a natural. He got 3 hole-in-ones in one game! Miles is slowly building up stamina and strength and doing great in school. He goes in for 2-3 hrs, including tutoring, 3x a week. He uses the Hopecam laptop to sit in virtually for class when he's not up for going in person (his teachers are amazing). He also uses it for schoolwork.
5: tahiry - GRADE 2, exmore, va
Tahiry is an awesome skater, she loves Princess Poppy in the Trolls movie and she can bake you right out of your cupcakes. Her favorite color is purple with a little bit of pink.
6: GABRIEL - GRADE 1, MAGNOLIA, TX
No matter what Gabriel always has a smile on his face. He loves to play and is always active and he is a strong amazing fighter. For someone who went through as much as he has gone through it is still amazing how he can keep that smile on his face! He LOVES the color blue, Hotwheels and monster trucks.
7: eliza - preschool, herndon, va
Eliza was diagnosed with pre-b cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia in August 2023 at 3 years old. She is now 4 years old and is currently in frontline chemo treatment in northern Virginia. She is funny, energetic, outgoing, and loves making new friends. Her favorite things to do are going to the playground, ballet, dancing, going on nature hikes, cooking, and doing arts and crafts. She loves elephants, dinosaurs, rainbows, and fairies. She has perfected her scooter riding and puzzle-solving skills this fall and is super proud of that! Eliza loves her little baby sister Marlowe and loves to make her laugh and she wants to be a doctor or child life specialist when she grows up.
8: reo - 12 years old, Maquoketa, IA
Reo is a cancer hero, having to learn how to walk again and all other daily functions due to treatment. She loves to use her Hopecam device to stay in touch with her family as she has received most of her treatment 8 hours from home. When she gets home she looks forward to riding her horse, playing with her rabbits and dogs…and of course, hangout with her friends.
